The saint who is known for her unrelenting compassion, serving the poorest of the poor and inspiring millions across the world, has inspired the Mother Teresa International Awards – an award show with a 23 year old legacy of honoring change-makers in society. The show this year, for the very first time will have its Dubai chapter.
It all started with All India Minority and Weaker Sections Council, a non-political organization established by Late Prafulla Chandra Sen, former Chief Minister of West Bengal and Mr, Anthony Arun Biswas along with many other dignitaries. The council has been working for the welfare of the weaker sections of the community.
After the death of Saint Teresa in 1997, the council formed Mother Teresa International and Millennium Award Committee and gave them the responsibility to recogniZe and give away awards every year to eminent personalities who have excelled in the fields of Education, Science, Culture, Sports, Social Work, Medicine, Industry and Politics in the country. Mother Teresa Lifetime Achievement Awards are given to persons in India and abroad who have practically served the poorest of the poor in their own capacity and to mankind during their long life. The award’s chief patron is Former Governor of West Bengal and Former Chief Justice of Calcutta, Justice Shyamal Sen.
The first Mother Teresa International Award was given to Late Jyoti Basu, former Chief Minister of West Bengal; for the year 2000 – 2001

On August 26th , the Mother Teresa International Awards will be held in Dubai at Hotel Conrad , 6:30 pm onwards. The renowned singer Usha Uthup will be performing at the event. Bengali actor/ dancer, the mother-daughter duo Indrani Dutta and her daughter Rajnandini Paul will be performing at the awards as well.
There are a few awards conferred to people from the UAE that will be revealed at the press conference prior to the ceremony.
